What started in 1957 as a small family business has grown into one of the region’s most trusted roofing companies, built on hard work, craftsmanship, and a promise to treat every project like it’s our own. In this video, see how our values, our people, and our commitment to quality have shaped our journey and continue to guide us today.
S.R. “Bob” Spann moved his family from Columbia, SC, to Myrtle Beach and partnered with local businessmen Archie Dargan, Morrison Campbell, and Craig Wall, Jr. to purchase Ammons, Inc., a small company specializing in appliances and heating systems. Right away, they expanded into roofing and sheet metal, hiring their first roofing employee, Bud Nobles.
The appliance division was sold so the company could focus fully on HVAC and roofing services.

Spann Roofing moved to 705 Seaboard Street in the Seaboard Industrial Park. In 1978, S.R. Spann, Sr. retired, and S.R. Spann, Jr. became president. The company officially became Spann Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. to better reflect its core services.
Ben Griffith joined the company and is now Vice President and part owner. A Citadel graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering, Ben brought fresh expertise to the team.
The Seaboard Street facility could no longer keep up with the company’s growth. Spann Roofing moved into a new 20,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility in the Atlantic Center, equipped with advanced technology, materials, and space to better serve the region.
James “Jimbo” Spann IV graduated from Clemson University and joined the company in 2009. Today, he serves as President and Owner.
Spann Residential Services, Inc. was created in 2014 to focus on homeowners, followed by Spann Repair Services LLC in 2015 for specialized repair needs.
James “Jimbo” Spann IV becomes President of Spann Roofing, carrying forward the legacy of quality, integrity, and trusted service.
From our first job to the thousands of roofs we’ve installed, repaired, and maintained since, our mission has remained the same: to deliver dependable roofing solutions backed by craftsmanship you can trust and a team that treats every project like it’s our own.
