Effects Trapped Moisture in your Roof

Many times roof leaks can go unnoticed causing trapped moisture in your roof. Before the leak shows up inside the building. Unfortunately, this can cause several problems and get very expensive.

Moisture from roof leaks causes the insulation to soak up the water and eventually expand to other areas of the roof. Left unchecked, the damage will require insulation to be removed.

Adverse Effects of Trapped Moisture in Roofs:

    • Energy Problems: As insulation becomes wet, it loses R-Value and increases energy costs.
    • HVAC Issues: Reduced R-Value of insulation causes HVAC systems to work harder and be less efficient.
    • Further Roof Damage: When the insulation has reached its capacity of saturation, the moisture will trickle down to the roof deck and cause damage and possible failure. At the point where water intrudes into the building, interior damage becomes evident and expensive. Trapped Moisture in your Roof

How can you Prevent Trapped Moisture in your Roof?

First, initiate a regularly scheduled Preventive Maintenance Program. Inspection and maintenance help identify trapped moisture in your roof (potential leak sources) before they become big problems.

Be pro-active when it comes to your roof. Has an Infrared Moisture Scan performed on your roof every 2 to 3 years?

The scan can detect areas of trapped moisture. Wet areas should be removed and replaced, maintain R-Values, and help extend the service life of your roof.
